Department of Hospital Medicine is seeking a board-prepared or board-certified physician at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher to join our growing academic department in the world’s largest medical center, located in Houston, Texas. Hospital Medicine has an annual inpatient census of approxiamtely 42,000. This is an exceptional opportunity for hospital medicine physicians to support the development of oncologic hospital medicine as a distinct sub-discipline. Responsibilities include providing care to patients diagnosed with cancer as well as supervising and educating medical students, residents, and fellows. As the Department of Hospital Medicine is a service that operates 24/7/365, nocturnal shifts will be supported by the physician.

Education & Licensure
The Assistant Professor must have completed the M.D. degree in an accredited medical school or equivalent, must have completed residency training in an approved American Residency Program or equivalent, have made application and been accepted by the American Board of nternal Medicine, and be licensed as a physician in the State of Texas. Must be board certified in Internal Medicine (or foreign equivalent if applicable) or obtain board certification within 3 years of employment. At least 2 years of experience as an Instructor or 5 years post degree with any combination of time as a clinician, clinical scientist, or GME trainee (except specialties with shorter residency or fellowship).

Oncologic Hospital Medicine Fellowship

The Oncologic Hospital Medicine fellowship provide a 12 month of advanced training in the growing sub-discipline of oncologic hospital medicine. This one year fellowship will offer an outstanding opportunity to highly qualified applicants who will contribute to this emerging sub-discipline. The program concentrates on effectviely treating cancer patients in an inpatient setting inclusive of pain and symptom management, as well as palliative therapy. Upon completion, it is expected that the fellowship will provide a career track that is focused in clinical care and enable a physician to provide superior cancer care in both academic and community settings.

Application process:
Eligible candidates should have completed an ACGME-accreditate residency program in Internal Medicine, although candidates with other traning backgrounds will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Personal statement, curriculum vitae, and three letters of recommendation are required. Competitive candidates will be asked for medical school transcripts and invited for personal interviews.
