ADULT HOSPITALIST OPPORTUNITIES

Maine Medical Partners Hospital Medicine (MMP-HM) is seeking BC/BE Internal Medicine and Family Medicine physicians for a unique opportunity to work as a full-time hospitalist in MaineHealth’s two largest hospitals: Maine Medical Center and Southern Maine Health Care.  We are seeking candidates who are interested in working in both Portland and Biddeford and have specific interest in building a collaborative, integrated hospitalist service between the sites.  The opportunity offers candidates work in a tertiary, academic setting as well as a community hospital setting.

The candidate will be joining MMP-HM, an organization within the broader practice group of Maine Medical Partners and Maine Medical Center.  MMP-HM now includes more than 70 hospitalists engaged on the frontlines of clinical care, quality improvement, and medical education.  The group includes leaders from across the organization including physicians with roles in the resident education, undergraduate medical education, medical consultation and preoperative medicine, homeless health, quality and many other key aspects of MaineHealth’s mission: “Working together so our communities are the healthiest in America.”  Physicians hired into this role will have the opportunity to work closely with residents, advanced practice professionals (NP/PA), and will have ready access to point of care ultrasound (POCUS) as part of their daily care.

Maine Medical Center (MMC) is an academic medical center with 700 licensed beds and is the state’s leading tertiary care and teaching hospital with a full complement of residencies and fellowships.   MMC is also an integral part of Tufts University Medical School, helping to support the Tufts Maine Track program with more than 40 medical students per year participating in this program.  As such, candidates will have the expectation of an academic appointment at Tufts University School of Medicine and access to faculty development provided through the Tufts programs.  There are also significant teaching and learning opportunities with internal medicine, medicine-pediatrics and family medicine residents, fellows and the medical students throughout the services centered at Maine Medical Center.

Southern Maine Health Care (SMHC) is a non-profit, full-service community hospital with 125 acute care beds located on the beautiful southern Maine coast.   SMHC offers a comprehensive array of medical care to the southern region of Maine, including emergency departments in Biddeford and Sanford.  Hospitalist medicine is provided by 15 employed Hospitalists and 10 Advanced Practice Professionals.  SMHC has a strong connection with the University of New England medical school with third year medical students participating in rotations in our Hospitalist program.

This position is a shared role between MMC and SMHC with expectation to work at both sites.  This is an opportunity to join a growing hospitalist program and help build collaboration between the two sites.

This is an outstanding opportunity to practice in this beautiful and culturally rich area and be affiliated with a health system with award-winning programs, nationally recognized physicians, and world-class technology. The area provides four season recreational opportunities, such as skiing, hiking, boating, sailing, and miles of beautiful beaches.  Just two hours north of Boston, this is an exceptionally diverse and vibrant community.

Maine Medical Partners is committed to creating an equitable, inclusive environment that is welcoming to diverse faculty.

Interested candidates may submit a cover letter and CV to Linda Wiley, Physician Recruiter at [email protected].
