Virginia Emergency Medicine Associates is seeking a Hospitalist Medical Director for their Hospital Medicine Program at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital.  The group has been an integral part of the hospital since 2005 and currently composes 15 FTE MDs and 6 FTE APPs.  Inova Fair Oaks is a 182-bed community hospital in Fairfax, Virginia served by a broad range of specialists and an integral member of the Inova Health System.  Inova Fair Oaks has been honored with Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade A since 2012, Magnet designation since 2009, and a CMS Five-Star Quality Rating.

 

Candidates should possess:

 

  1. Medical degree, either an M.D. or a D.O.
  2. Board-certified in Internal Medicine or Family Practice
  3. Comfortable using applications such as  Microsoft Excel.
  4. 1-3 years of experience with a data-driven approach to:
    1. Model clinical outcomes analysis and management
    2. Budget planning
    3. Staffing models based on census and acuity
  5. 1-3 years of experience working in a collaborative team environment and supervising direct reports

 

The role encompasses the following duties:

 

  1. Staffing management
    1. Work with VEMA leadership to determine the optimal staffing model maximizing quality, patient safety, and provider work-life balance
    2. Review monthly schedule to match staffing to volume metrics
    3. Review daily census to meet the patient demand in real-time
  2. Recruitment
    1. Work with VEMA leadership to determine future staffing needs
    2. Supervise the candidate review process
    3. Interview final round candidates
    4. Choose the new team members
  3.  Team Mentorship
    1.   New Team Members Team Members
      1. Supervise onboarding process
      2. Timed reviews
      3. Clinical feedback
    2. Team Members
      1. Update providers through multi-channel media on new processes
      2. Provide feedback on process adoption 
      3. 180-day reviews with all team members
  4. Hospital Leadership
    1. Committees
      1. Member of Committees-represent VEMA on medical executive committee, patient experience, and pharmacy & therapeutics as an example
      2. Chair of Committees - drive change through leadership on areas important to hospitalist patients
      3. Chair Medicine Peer Review Committee
    2. Collaboration with Inova Fair Oaks Clinical Leaders
      1. Chief Medical Officer-Meet to review team performance
      2. Chief Nursing Officer - Meet to review system metrics and team performance
    3. Safety Champion
      1. Lead patient safety efforts such as Healthcare-associated Infection reduction
  5. System Leadership
    1. Meeting regularly with the Medicine Service Line Chair of Hospital Medicine
    2. Special projects
      1. Clinical effectiveness sprints
      2. System committees such as Acute Care Flow Taskforce
  6. Administrative Leadership
    1. Clinical metrics
      1. Scorecard development and upkeep
      2. Yearly alignment with system priorities for Hospital Medicine
    2. Conflict resolution between team members, patients, consultants, nursing, and case management.
    3. Chart audits: case reviews for fallouts and feedback to the team.
    4. Business development
      1. Internal-explore opportunities in the hospital to expand services
      2. External-explore opportunities in our community to expand services
