University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics seeks an accomplished, goal-oriented physician leader to serve as Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) overseeing adult inpatient clinical operations. This individual will be key in driving the delivery of efficient, high-quality, safe, cost-effective care provided in a team-based, patient and family centered culture within UI Hospitals & Clinics.
Working in a complex academic medical center and highly matrixed environment, the ACMO will be charged with assessing the current state of adult inpatient clinical operations and setting forth a strategy with an end goal of the delivery of outstanding care, improved efficiency and operational metrics and increased capacity. Reporting to the UI Hospitals & Clinics CMO, and in collaboration with peers, clinical leaders, and multiple staff, the ACMO will use a data-driven approach to improving operations. With a focus on the patient, this individual will address issues in operational effectiveness, productivity, quality, patient safety, and the patient experience. They will oversee clinical programs through a team of Medical Directors and support the CMO in new strategic initiatives.
The ACMO role will afford the successful candidate the opportunity to be part of the nationally recognized University of Iowa system of academics and healthcare. UI Health Care is a system with revenues of more than $3.5 billion. It is comprised of its flagship 889 adult and pediatric bed, tertiary/quaternary academic medical center, the only comprehensive academic medical center in Iowa. UI Health Care is expanding to support growth in their geographical region, with other facilities currently under construction.
The successful candidate will be a practicing physician in an inpatient discipline who possesses experience within an academic medical center. They will have a proven track record of instituting successful, patient-focused operational improvements in the inpatient setting and a history of utilizing data to assess operations and drive change. An MD/DO or equivalent degree, Board Certification, and eligibility for licensure in the State of Iowa is required. An advanced degree in healthcare/business (MBA, MHA) or equivalent degree is preferred. Candidates must be eligible for a faculty appointment in the Carver College of Medicine.
