Located near the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world, UTMB has a long and remarkable history of advancing health sciences education, research and patient care. It was the first academic health center in Texas and is home to the state’s first schools of medicine, nursing and allied health sciences. For 125 years, the university has maintained a forward-thinking spirit that has enabled it to serve its students, its patients, and the people of Texas and beyond, in innovative ways.
Department of Internal Medicine/Division of General Medicine seeks highly motivated candidates who are willing to establish or continue their careers as a faculty member in the Division of General Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine at UTMB’s School of Medicine in Galveston, Texas. We seek candidates willing to excel in teaching, scholarly activities, clinical care, and service.
UTMB has open positions in each of three tracks, Academic Generalist (Hybrid), Academic Outpatient, and Academic Hospitalist.
- The Academic Generalist (Hybrid) opportunity utilizes a unique team-based approach to care and is based on the traditional model of inpatient service attending and outpatient clinic. Faculty, along with house staff, are assigned to one of three teams and patient care is kept within each team, in both the outpatient and inpatient setting. Outpatient Afterhours call is shared among all faculty, with a nurse triage line being the first point of contact. Afterhours call for the faculty occurs approximately two to three times a year for a week at a time.
- The Academic Outpatient Opportunity is based on a model of 9 sessions of private clinic per week plus one session of administrative/academic time, with no inpatient or weekend call duties. The Outpatient faculty will assist in the education of medical students who rotate through the private faculty clinics.
- The Academic Hospitalist Service is still in process, and we are planning on starting a Direct Patient Care Service in the Spring 2022. Currently, we envision the duties to include a direct patient care component and a surgical co-management service. We hope to include students and residents once a sustainable program has been established. Any interested candidates may submit their CV for consideration of hire this Spring.
All residents and in-practice physicians are encouraged to apply! We cannot support J1 Visa candidates at this time.
