The Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is recruiting a full time Academic Hospitalist. As one of 30 hospitalists, this individual will have the opportunity to work on our teaching hospitalist service as well as our non-teaching, direct care services. While attending on the general medical teaching service, hospitalists supervise care provided by a resident team and provide education to third and fourth year medical students, interns, and residents.

Non-teaching responsibilities include supervising advanced practice providers as well as providing direct clinical care in the Medical Intermediate Care unit and non-teaching general medicine and transplant medicine services. Hospitalists provide medical consultation throughout the hospital, as well as serve in a Medical Admitting Officer role in which they facilitate bed control and direct admissions as needed to expedite transfers from our acute care units, the Emergency Department, and the Medical Intensive Care Unit.

UMMC is a referral center for the most critically ill patients in the Mid-Atlantic region. Candidates must be board certified/eligible in internal medicine and eligible for an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Maryland. This position also requires a medical degree from a recognized accredited domestic university (or foreign equivalent), a strong commitment to patient care and education, and the ability to work well in a team setting. Expected faculty rank is Assistant Professor or higher, however, final rank, tenure status and salary will be commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.
