Family Medicine Hospitalist Physician

The University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Department of Family & Community Medicine, seeks a qualified and dynamic Family Medicine Hospitalist interested in joining its faculty. This position offers the opportunity to practice in a highly supportive academic environment that prioritizes mentorship, professional development, and career advancement. Faculty provide inpatient care while contributing to education and scholarship, with access to resources that support research and innovation. We encourage Family Medicine educators with interest in areas such as addiction medicine, underserved care, inpatient procedures, point-of-care ultrasound, and inpatient clinical education to apply to this position. We serve a diverse community, and we are seeking physicians who bring clinical excellence and a commitment to compassionate care.

This position includes leading an academic Family Medicine inpatient team composed of a senior resident, an advanced practice provider, interns, and medical and physician assistant students, with a typical daily census of 12 to 16 patients. As part of a strong and well-established residency program, this position requires an outstanding educator who is passionate about teaching and mentoring learners. Faculty play a central role in shaping the next generation of physicians through bedside teaching and didactics, while working within a team-oriented culture that values collaboration and continuous learning.

The Family Medicine faculty will join a renowned and well-established academic Family Medicine department offering opportunities in teaching and curricular development, clinical quality improvement innovations, community-engaged collaborative research, and other scholarly activities.  The University of New Mexico is New Mexico’s flagship R1 research-intensive institution.  It is recognized for its innovative research and has secured over $165 million in extramural research funding.  The UNM Health Science Center has an established Clinical & Translational Science Center and a Comprehensive Cancer Center that provide extensive opportunities and resources to support collaborative research in various interest areas.

Albuquerque, NM, is a beautiful city with the Sandia Mountains to the east and the Mesa to the west.  At more than a mile in elevation, this high desert environment offers gorgeous, sunny days and a variety of all four seasons.  It is ideal for outdoor activities and sports all year round, including running, hiking, biking, and skiing. Albuquerque is 1 hour from Santa Fe, NM, and 2.5 hours from Taos, NM, both of which are world famous for their art and culture. The State of New Mexico is multicultural and diverse, with 19 indigenous native pueblos, the Navajo Nation, and three Apache tribal lands. Minimum Requirements:

·         Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy

·         Board eligible/certified in Family Medicine by the ABFM or AOA

·         Eligible for medical licensure in NM

·         Eligible for State of New Mexico Board of Pharmacy certification and federal DEA registration

·         Must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Three years of directly related clinical experience as a hospitalist or clinical focus in the inpatient setting

·         Experience in educating students and residents

·         A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
