Location: Southaven, MS - Inpatient hospital (339 beds, including 36 ICU beds)
Assignment: Locum tenens nocturnist; coverage begins August 2026 and is ongoing. Shift schedule/coverage specifics to be determined.
Scope of practice
- Provide overnight inpatient hospitalist coverage for adult patients.
- Manage a broad case mix: general medicine, ICU support, neurology, orthopedics, general surgery, cardiology, oncology, and gastroenterology.
- Respond to codes and rapid response team activations.
- Support an open ICU environment and collaborate with on-call specialists and multidisciplinary teams.
- Document care in Epic (with M Modal).
Team and resources
- Day coverage: 10 physicians and 3 PA/NPs.
- Night coverage: 2 physicians and 1 PA/NP.
- Specialty backup available for neurology, orthopedics, general surgery, cardiology, oncology, and gastroenterology.
- Phone consults as needed.
Credentials and compliance
- Active, unrestricted Mississippi medical license required.
- Active DEA with Mississippi address; able to prescribe schedules II-V (including 2N and 3N).
- Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
- ACLS certification required.
- Flu and COVID vaccination required.
- Hospital privileges required; credentialing timeline TBD.
Experience and documentation
- Completion of an Internal Medicine or Family Medicine residency.
- Minimum 2 years of recent clinical experience.
- Provide case logs and CME documentation for the prior 2 years.
- Fellowship training preferred.
Compensation and logistics
- Rate: TBD.
- Travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance provided.
Procedures
- No procedural requirements; expected to respond to codes and rapid responses.
Expectations
- Deliver high-quality inpatient care overnight, collaborate effectively with specialty services, and maintain accurate, timely documentation in Epic.
