This role focuses on providing high-quality care to newborns and pediatric patients while maintaining a balanced schedule and access to modern facilities. Its an outstanding opportunity for a pediatrician seeking a stable hospital-based position in a growing, family-friendly community near Myrtle Beach.
Position Overview
- Schedule:8-hour in-house shifts (8:30 AM"4:30 PM)
- Call Coverage:24/7 model with 16 hours of on-call responsibilities
- Census:Average 8"15 newborns and 0"2 pediatric inpatients per day
- Call Duties:Respond to nurse or ED consults, attend high-risk deliveries, stabilize sick newborns (no parent-initiated calls)
- Call Rooms:Dedicated onsite call rooms available though not required to stay overnight
- EMR:Cerner
- APRN support (Wednesday"Friday mornings) for peak census periods
- 24/7 CRNA coverage for epidurals and emergent C-sections
- Nursery, labor & delivery, postpartum, and pediatrics all located on the same floor for streamlined workflow
- One full-time pediatric hospitalist, plus part-time coverage for weekends, holidays, and PTO
- Patient Mix:Approximately 90% newborn care and 10% straightforward pediatric admissions
- Procedures:Circumcisions, frenotomies, emergency CPAP management, simple polydactyly excision, and rare emergent interventions (e.g., intubation, needle decompression, UVC placement)
- Facility Level:Level II nursery"attending deliveries from 32 weeks gestation and up
- Transfers:
- Level III NICU transfers to McLeod (?2 hours by ground)
- Level IV NICU transfers to MUSC (?45 minutes by air)
- System averages1,600 deliveries per year, projected to grow to 1,800"2,000 with continued Womens Health expansion
Candidate Requirements- Completion of an ACGME-accredited pediatric residency (3 years minimum)
- Board certification/board eligibility in Pediatrics
- Strong clinical skills in newborn and low-acuity pediatric inpatient care
- Sign-On Bonus:$25,000+ to assist with relocation or transition
