Locums - Yakima, Washington Nocturnist Opening

Clinical Role

Join an established hospital medicine service in Yakima, Washington, providing nocturnist coverage for a 238-bed hospital. The nocturnist will provide overnight admissions and cross-coverage for inpatient patients, with no procedures required.

The current need includes coverage in October and December, with the possibility of extending for approximately 3 months or longer.

Assignment Details

Contract Length:

13 weeks, with coverage needed in October and December. Additional coverage after December is TBD, with the possibility of extending for 3 months or longer.

Schedule:
  • Standard night shifts
  • 12-hour shifts
  • 7:00 PM-7:00 AM
  • Nocturnist coverage
  • Overnight admissions and cross-coverage

  • October 9

  • October 9-12 have two open provider spaces

Coverage Model:
  • Two night providers currently cover the hospital
  • One provider handles admissions only
  • One provider handles admissions and cross-coverage
  • Support staff do not currently have a backup system in place
  • ICU is closed

Clinical Workload:
  • Up to 10 admissions per night
  • Cross-cover approximately 100-130 patients
  • Up to 4 admissions for the cross-cover provider
  • No overnight discharges
  • Entire hospital bed count is approximately 238 beds
  • Active inpatient census may range from approximately 100-130 patients

  • Provide overnight hospital medicine coverage
  • Evaluate and admit hospital patients
  • Manage up to 10 admissions during a shift
  • Provide cross-coverage for approximately 100-130 inpatient patients
  • Handle up to 4 admissions while providing cross-coverage
  • Respond to overnight patient needs
  • Coordinate care with the existing night providers and hospital staff
  • Document patient care appropriately
  • No procedures required
  • No overnight discharges

Support & Team

The nocturnist will work alongside two existing night providers. One night provider focuses on admissions, while the other handles admissions and cross-coverage. Support staff do not currently have a backup system in place.

  • Emergency Medicine privileges may be able to be expedited

Credentialing

Normal credentialing timeline is approximately 90 days.

The facility should be able to push for Emergency Medicine privileges to help facilitate the credentialing process.
