Job Details

The Director of Neurosurgery Co-management Service will serve as the Department of Hospital Medicine physician leader responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining a high-quality neurosurgery co-management program at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus. The Director will collaborate with the Division Chair, NEO, Main Campus Hospital Medicine leadership, Neurosurgery, Anesthesiology, nursing, care management, perioperative services (PACC), and other key stakeholders to improve patient care, clinical outcomes, throughput, communication, and operational alignment across the perioperative and inpatient continuum.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement a standardized neurosurgery co-management model aligned with DHM, Main Campus, IHCI, and enterprise priorities.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to define roles, workflows, and escalation pathways for co-managed patients.
  • Oversee daily co-management operations, including patient selection, consultation expectations, communication standards, and transitions of care.
  • Support safe, timely, efficient, equitable, patient-centered care across the perioperative, inpatient, and discharge continuum.
  • Maintain protocols, best-practice documents, and workflows that promote consistent care and reduce variation.
  • Participate in regular interdisciplinary meetings with Neurosurgery, Anesthesiology, nursing, care management, and hospital operations to review workflows, outcomes, concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor quality, safety, patient experience, throughput, provider experience, SQPE, and operational metrics.
  • Identify co-management barriers and work with clinical and operational leaders on process improvements.
  • Provide regular updates, data reviews, and recommendations to DHM leadership.
  • Establish and maintain regular communication with DHM providers and specialty partners involved in neurosurgery co-management.
  • Support co-management alignment during the Neurosurgery transition to the new building, including workflows, staffing, communication, and coordination.
  • Promote collaboration, professionalism, and shared accountability across DHM, Neurosurgery, Anesthesiology, nursing, and operational teams.

PURPOSE

  • Collaborate with Department to ensure appropriate staffing models, scheduling support, and resource allocation for co-management operations.
  • Review co-management volume, patient complexity, throughput, and quality data to inform operational planning and program improvement.
  • Escalate critical operational, safety, or resource concerns to Department leadership and relevant specialty leaders in a timely manner.
  • Use internal data and national benchmarks, where available, to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Improve outcomes and LOS.
  • Optimize management of acute/chronic medical conditions during inpatient stay.
  • minimize postoperative medical complications both in patient and immediately post discharge.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated understanding of hospital medicine operations, perioperative care, consultation models, co-management models, and hospital throughput.
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and team-management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to work effectively across departments and disciplines.
  • Ability to drive projects, meet deadlines, and address operational issues in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to develop workflows, standard work, protocols, and educational materials that support consistent clinical practice.
