Physician Hospitalist Locums Description
A leading acute care hospital in Springfield, Oregon, is seeking an experienced Hospitalist Physician for a locums assignment providing adult inpatient care. This is an excellent opportunity to join a Level II trauma center with comprehensive subspecialty support while focusing exclusively on floor patients.
The hospital recently expanded by 31 beds and is seeking additional physician support for gap coverage while recruiting permanent hospitalists. The position offers flexible block scheduling, including potential 7-on/7-off arrangements, with no required call.

About the Facility
- Acute care hospital with approximately 350 inpatient beds.
- Level II trauma center with a full complement of subspecialty support.
- Adult inpatient population only.
- Hospitalist team provides rounding, admissions, and cross-coverage.
- Intensivists manage ICU patients, in-house codes, lines, vents, and intubations.
- IR or the intensivist team handles procedures as needed.
- Inpatient setting with approximately 15 patients/day for rounders and 7 admissions/day for admitters.
- Epic EMR.
- Hospital privileges required.
- No ICU management or ICU rounding required.
- Pay: $200/hour
- Travel expenses reimbursed, including:
- Mileage
- Rental car
- Hotel
- Flight
- Malpractice insurance covered
- Round on adult inpatient floor patients.
- Manage approximately 15 patients per day when assigned to rounding.
- Perform approximately 7 admissions per day when assigned to admissions.
- Provide admissions and cross-coverage as needed, particularly for nocturnal coverage.
- Collaborate with intensivists and subspecialists.
- Coordinate patient care with the multidisciplinary hospital team.
- Maintain accurate documentation in Epic.
- Provide high-quality inpatient medical care.
- No ICU management, ICU rounding, or management of vents/intubations is required.
- Board Certified Hospitalist Physician.
- Minimum 2 years of experience.
- Active Oregon medical license required/preferred for immediate starts.
- Candidates without an Oregon license may be considered if the licensing ETA is reasonable; the ETA must be included with presentation.
- For candidates seeking to start sooner than 90 days, including October 2026, an Oregon license must be in hand because Oregon Medical Staff/CVO does not fast-track without an active license.
- ACLS required.
- Proficiency with Epic required.
- Candidates must demonstrate inpatient or outpatient clinical activity involving at least 80 patients within the past 24 months, or qualify through recent completion of an accredited hospital-affiliated residency, fellowship, or research program.
- Hospital privileges required.
- COVID-19 vaccination required with no facility exemptions.
- Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience are not required.
- No willingness-to-license option is available for candidates who cannot meet the licensing requirements.
- Full-time locums assignment.
- Coverage is scheduled with no call.
- Primary need is daytime coverage, primarily rounding.
- Standard day shift: 7:00 AM 7:00 PM (12 hours).
- Swing shift: 1:00 PM start, typically 9 hours, with 12-hour shifts available if preferred.
- Night shift: 9:00 PM start, typically 10 hours; start time may flex to 7:00 PM if preferred.
- Flexible block scheduling available.
- A 7-days-on/7-days-off schedule can be accommodated, but consecutive 7-day blocks are not required.
- Coverage includes days, with some swing/night admissions and cross-cover for nocturnists.
- Holiday coverage windows include New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
