WashU GI is seeking a full-time Academic Gastroenterology Hospitalist to join our expanding inpatient gastroenterology service. This position is designed for clinicians with a strong interest in inpatient digestive diseases, clinical excellence, and medical education within a dynamic academic environment.
The Gastroenterology Hospitalist will provide comprehensive inpatient consultative and procedural care for patients with a broad spectrum of gastrointestinal disorders. This role emphasizes high-quality, efficient, team-based care in collaboration with hospital medicine, surgery, oncology, and critical care services.

WashU GI is seeking a full-time Academic Gastroenterology Hospitalist to join our expanding inpatient gastroenterology service. This position is designed for clinicians with a strong interest in inpatient digestive diseases, clinical excellence, and medical education within a dynamic academic environment.
The Gastroenterology Hospitalist will provide comprehensive inpatient consultative and procedural care for patients with a broad spectrum of gastrointestinal disorders. This role emphasizes high-quality, efficient, team-based care in collaboration with hospital medicine, surgery, oncology, and critical care services.
Key Responsibilities
- Inpatient GI consultation - Provide comprehensive inpatient gastroenterology consultation services, including evaluation and management of acute gastrointestinal conditions.
- Endoscopic procedures - Perform inpatient endoscopic procedures such as EGD, colonoscopy, and flexible sigmoidoscopy.
- Clinical teaching - Supervise and teach fellows, residents, and medical students during inpatient rotations.
- Quality and operations - Contribute to quality improvement efforts and clinical operations initiatives within the inpatient GI service.
- Academic engagement - Optional participation in clinical research, medical education scholarship, or implementation science initiatives.
- Service schedule - Provide two weeks per month of inpatient coverage, with flexible scheduling during non?service weeks.
- Call responsibilities - Participate in shared call coverage with the GI faculty.
Qualifications
- MD or equivalent professional medical degree.
- Board-certified or board-eligible in Gastroenterology.
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited three-year Gastroenterology fellowship.
- Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Missouri.
