Job Details

We are seeking an experienced Locums OB Hospitalist to provide short-term coverage in Corpus Christi, TX. This role is best suited for a physician confident managing a high-volume, high-acuity obstetrical population.

Assignment Details
  • Coverage dates: September 14 and September 18
  • Schedule: 24-hour shifts (8:00 AM-8:00 AM)
  • Annual births: 4,000
  • Maternal care level: IV
  • NICU level: III
  • EMR: Meditech

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive OB hospitalist coverage including OB emergency department and obstetrical triage
  • Evaluate, admit, manage, and discharge unassigned obstetrical and gynecologic patients
  • Respond to labor, deliveries, obstetrical emergencies, and acute maternal conditions
  • Manage complex and high-risk pregnancies, including maternal-fetal medicine and TOLAC cases
  • Provide emergency stabilization and care until the primary physician assumes responsibility
  • Perform and assist with deliveries, including complicated and operative cases
  • First assist and provide surgical support for cesarean sections when available
  • Manage emergency surgical care for unassigned gynecologic patients
  • Accept transfers and coordinate transport for critically ill obstetrical/gynecologic patients
  • Lead responses to major obstetrical emergencies, including hemorrhage and activation of massive transfusion protocols
  • Complete thorough history and physicals, coordinate ongoing care, and maintain accurate, timely EMR documentation
  • Collaborate closely with nursing, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and fetal monitoring initiatives

Candidate Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of OB clinical experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing high-acuity, complex obstetrical patients
  • Comfortable working independently in an OBED and managing unassigned patients
  • Strong emergency obstetrical and operative skills; experience with complicated deliveries, TOLAC, and maternal-fetal medicine cases
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • NCC fetal heart monitoring certification preferred
