We are seeking an experienced locum hospitalist to join an on-site inpatient team in Gainesville, Florida. This role involves day and night shifts, weekend coverage, and call, and is best suited to a physician comfortable managing medically complex patients in a large tertiary-care, teaching hospital.

If you are an experienced hospitalist seeking a high-acuity, teaching-hospital locum opportunity in Gainesville, this position offers a dynamic clinical environment and collaborative team setting.
Schedule and Practice Details
- Shifts: Days 7:00 AM-7:00 PM; Nights 7:00 PM-7:00 AM
- Weekend coverage and call required
- 532-bed tertiary-care medical center
- Hospitalists manage roughly 75% of the hospital census
- Typical rounding census: 20-22 patients per physician
- ICU rounding required
- No trauma service
- Consulting physicians typically see 12-20 patients per day
Clinical Environment
High-acuity center with comprehensive specialty and critical-care resources, including:
- Intensive Care Unit
- Comprehensive stroke and STEMI services
- Complex cardiac center
- Transplant and Cellular Therapy (TCT) services
- Graduate Medical Education (GME) teaching program
- Multidisciplinary specialty support
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily inpatient medical care, including evaluation, management, admissions, and discharges
- Manage acute and chronic medical conditions for medically complex patients
- Perform ICU rounding and coordinate critical care as needed
- Collaborate with consulting physicians, nursing staff, residents, APPs, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated care
Qualifications
- MD or DO
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
- Hospitalist experience required (minimum one year of relevant experience)
- Active Florida medical license and Florida DEA
