Hospitalist - Long-Term Acute Care Facility, Cambridge, MA

Spaulding Hospital Cambridge, a 180-bed long-term acute care and rehabilitation hospital within Spaulding Rehabilitation and Mass General Brigham, is seeking a full-time, part-time, and per diem Hospitalists to join our collaborative inpatient team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Internal Medicine or Family Medicine physician who enjoys caring for medically complex patients and values a predictable schedule, manageable census, strong interdisciplinary support, and greater continuity with patients throughout their recovery — with access to the clinical expertise and resources of the broader Mass General Brigham system.

The Practice

The Hospitalist team at Spaulding serve as attending physicians for medically complex adults who require continued hospital-level care following acute illness, injury, or prolonged hospitalization.

Patients may be recovering from critical illness, respiratory failure, neurologic injury, cardiac and pulmonary conditions, infections, wounds, post-ICU care, and other complex medical conditions requiring continued inpatient management alongside rehabilitation.

Hospitalists work closely with PM&R physicians, nursing, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, physical and occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, case management, social work, and specialty consultants to provide highly coordinated care.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily medical management for approximately 10 – 14 patients
• Complete admissions, H&Ps, progress notes, and discharge summaries
• Manage acute and chronic medical conditions
• Coordinate care with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team
• Participate in complex discharge planning
• Respond to rapid responses and medical codes during assigned shifts, as applicable
• Ventilator/tracheostomy responsibilities: Pulmonology manages ventilator and tracheostomy care, while the hospitalist oversees medical management, with close collaboration between both teams.
• Expected admissions/day: 1 – 2 admissions and 1 – 2 discharges per day

  Qualifications

• MD or DO
• Board Certified or Board
• Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine Eligible for Massachusetts medical licensure
• Inpatient/hospitalist experience preferred
• Comfort caring for medically complex and post-acute patients
• Strong communication and team-based care skills
