how many providers during the day? How are admissions handled (i.e., dedicated admitter or 'round robin')? We have 5 hospitalists scheduled each day. Three are assigned to the inpatient medicine service, one covers the Acute Rehab Unit, and one serves as the Nocturnist.

The Hospitalist OnCall is the first point of contact for new admissions and distributes them in a roundrobin fashion among the inpatient team. We do not have a dedicated admitter; however, on weekends a resident is assigned to assist with admissions for part of the day.

How are codes handled? The Hospitalist on Call for that day responds to all codes. With assistance from our residents.

Are there critical care procedures needed for the day provider? There is an intensivist on site during the day shift. We would need to defer to the Medical Staff Credentialing team to determine whether any specific procedure privileges are required, or to the Service Chiefs for further discussion regarding procedural expectations. Most of our critical care patients are typically staffed on the teaching service, which also provides additional teaching opportunities. Our locum physicians will not be assigned to the daytime teaching service at this time.
