Hospitalist Physician

We are seeking a Hospitalist Physician for intermittent locum coverage in Ketchikan, Alaska, with an urgent need for night coverage beginning in late December. This position includes both medical-surgical and ICU patient management at a 25-bed hospital.

Assignment Details

• Urgent Coverage: December 29, 2026 January 4, 2027
• Initial urgent need is for night shifts
• Approximately 6 months of intermittent coverage
• Additional 2027 needs expected in roughly one-week blocks
• 1 physician needed

Schedule

• 12-hour shifts
• Days: 7:00 AM 7:00 PM
• Nights: 7:00 PM 7:00 AM
• Must be willing to work nights
• No call

Practice Setting

• Inpatient Hospital Medicine
• 25-bed hospital
• Medical-Surgical + ICU coverage
• Adult patient population
• Approximately 10 patients per day
• Provider works solo
• Epic EMR

Clinical Responsibilities

• Adult inpatient rounding
• Admissions
• ICU rounding and admissions
• Manage both medical-surgical and ICU patients
• May provide consultation on pediatric patients but does not routinely follow pediatric patients

Preferred procedural skills include:

• Ventilator management
• Intubation
• Central line placement

Requirements

• MD
• Internal Medicine or Family Medicine clinical experience
• BLS required
• ACLS required
• Active license highly preferred, but not required
• Must provide recent case logs demonstrating IM/FM services within the previous 24 months, unless training was completed within the previous year

Additional Requirements

• COVID-19 vaccination required; no exemptions

Ideal Candidate

An experienced Hospitalist comfortable working independently and managing both Med/Surg and ICU patients, including ICU admissions and rounding. Candidates with ventilator management, intubation, and central line experience are preferred, particularly those available for the 12/29/26 1/4/27 overnight coverage.
